Bring Color, Fun & Excitement to Those Gray Winter Days

Felted Madeline Hat

Felted Madeline Hat
OK, so you've already heard the news -- here in the U.S. we're facing at least six more weeks of winter. Or at least that's the forecast according to Punxsutawney Phil, the prognosticating little rodent who saw his shadow in Pennsylvania this past weekend on Groundhog Day. So what does this have to do with knitting & crocheting you say? Well, we at Yarnmarket were looking forward to an early spring & are already getting tired of the dreary gray skies of the typical Central Ohio winter day. Now if you're like us, then you too need a pick-me-up from your crafts to balance out the gloom, and that's why we're dedicating ourselves this month to featuring for you projects that will bring color, fun & excitement to the rest of winter!

Van Dyck Stampato Pullover

Van Dyck Stampato Pullover
Now we're still working on many special projects from our Exotic & Unusual Fibers category, the Luxury Cashmere & Silk Yarns department and our Hand Painted & Hand Dyed Yarns collection as we recommended in the January Newsletter and Bulletin. But we also need some extra cheer & color to brighten the days & nights ahead.

First off, we simply love the way that accessories can enliven any wardrobe, especially how a colorful hat or scarf can jazz up that coat or jacket we're spending so much time wearing this time of year. So for hat lovers everywhere who also enjoy felting, check out the stylish Felted Madeline Hat. Featured in the latest issue of Knit 'N Style, this terrific "chapeau" is designed after those worn by the adorable Parisian schoolgirl in the children's books of Ludwig Bemelman. It's a great year-round topper because it's out of the ordinary and crafted of spectacular Vegas yarn from the Vickie Howell Collection. Just pick your favorite solid color of "Vegas" for the body & brim of the hat, and then select a contrasting shade for the optional hat band if you like.

Antoinette Iro Vest

Next you can add fun & excitement to your winter wardrobe with a quick-to-knit sweater project that's beautiful & figure flattering as well. From your first peek at the Van Dyck Stampato Pullover, we bet you'll agree that this sweater is a terrific way to add texture & color to your dreary days & evenings. It's truly a cabled design with lots of modern twists because it knits up quickly on larger needles plus has lots of pizzazz & style. Just look at the large cabling down the front, on each sleeve & accenting the collar, and you'll see exactly what we mean. Also its longer tunic length is figure enhancing for many sizes & shapes, so no wonder it's sized from X-Small to X-Large.

And remember -- if you prefer solid colors, you can knit up this superb tunic sweater in single-hued Van Dyck in 20 heathery shades.

Bunny Hop Side Wrap Baby Kimono

We also recommend you check out Noro projects for some of the most colorful options you can add to your cold-weather wardrobe. From the bright auto-striping of the Kureyon Buttoned Vest and the Kureyon Cabled Turtleneck to the sensational Silk Garden Cabled Shawl and the lovely textured Silk Mountain Vest, Noro certainly delivers cheer all winter long.

We especially recommend the newest Noro project in our collection -- the Antoinette Iro Vest. This classic pullover vest is transformed when knitted in Noro's stupendously self-striping Iro yarn. The scoop neck & loose fit flatter many body types & sizes, and the vest is easy to dress up or down with accessories. Besides, you can look as if you've taken hours to alternate many lovely color options when actually the yarn has done all the work for you!

And, of course, babies & those precious little ones need color & texture in their wardrobes too during the cold, gray winter months ahead. You can start off with a supersoft little jacket that even begins with a Crystal Palace free pattern. The Bunny Hop Side Wrap Baby Kimono will keep your little darling warm & cozy all year round. The body of the cardigan is knit in your favorite shade of Bunny Hop Solid and then trimmed with the coordinated multi in Bunny Hop Print. And you only need to know how to make a slip stitch & chain for the simple, crocheted inside ties. You can also get some Noro brightness into your baby's life with the Felted Blanket that's definitely out of the ordinary and crafted of auto-striping Kureyon.

Stunning New Yarns, Colors & Projects Now in Stock from Trendsetter

Trendsetter's Harmony

Trendsetter's Harmony
This month we at Yarnmarket are very excited by the new arrivals from Trendsetter Yarn because we know you love the way Barry Klein & his designers can take the classic and give it such a modern twist. We are introducing two of his newest yarn creations, and of course, we have also added his marvelous pattern support for these two fiber gems as well.

First off, we have the wonderful wool blend Harmony where you get a classic wool tweed yarn lightly twisted with a silk ribbon for a totally updated, modern look. We are thrilled by the way the sheen of the ribbon peeks through the classic tweed for added interest & texture in all our worsted-weight knitting & crochet projects.

Madison Tie Waist Cardigan

Substitute "Harmony" in all your traditional patterns for pullovers, cardigans, jackets and accessories, or take a peek at Barry's four exclusive designs for more ideas:

  • Harmony Knee Length Classic Coat (#3524),
  • Harmony Sideways Ribbed Cardigan (#3523),
  • Harmony Tied Cowl Pullover (#3525) and
  • Harmony V Tied Cabled Cardigan (#3522).

Trendsetter also brings you a new yarn aptly named for New York City's famous Madison Avenue. Madison yarn has a sleek exterior with lots of exciting details on the inside. True solid shades form the background of each color combo, and then multi-hued, soft wool tops are randomly interjected to bring additional life & texture to this glowing, subtly thick & thin creation.

"Madison" is a terrific choice for quick-to-create pullovers, cardis, jackets and just about any project calling for chunky-weight yarn such as these superb designs from Trendsetter:

  • Madison Ribbed Pullover (#3540),
  • Madison Ribbed Pullover with Fringe (#3538),
  • Madison Tie Waist Cardigan (#3537) and
  • Madison Turtleneck Pullover (#3539).

Then we have new colors now in stock for some of your all-time favorite Trendsetter yarns including Tonalita, Yosemite and Pandora Shadow. Also check out all the new Trendsetter patterns such as the Dune Star Pullover (#3530), the Tonalita Hats and Scarves (#3306), the Dune & Tonalita Reversible Cabled Wrap & Throw and the Yosemite Classic Cardigan (#3534), just to name a few.

    Supercashmere Fine

    Supercashmere Fine
Since our feature of the Luxury Cashmere & Silk Yarns department last month, we've been paying special attention to your emails requesting a lighter weight, 100% cashmere yarn to complement our chunky, quick-to-create Supercashmere from Karabella Yarns and our three worsted weight options -- Cashmere 5 by Artyarns, GGH's Cashmere and Pure Cashmere from Debbie Bliss.

We considered many alternatives and finally found the highest quality option of Supercashmere Fine also from Karabella Yarns. Being crafted of 100%, long-stapled Italian cashmere makes "Supercashmere Fine" a gorgeous, super luxurious fiber gem. With its 2-ply construction & supreme softness, it's the ultimate luxury next to your skin.

    Cashmere Lace Top
    Cashmere Lace Top
Sensational used single-stranded as a fingering-weight yarn in lacy scarves, open-weave shawls & stunning tops, it even works up spectacularly in baby items for that precious little one. Or for a slightly heavier gauge such as DK weight, use "Supercashmere Fine" double stranded for even greater luxury.

And if you don't already have your own collection of favorite lacy projects at hand, consider the extraordinary pattern offerings of Karabella founder Berta Karapetyan including one crocheted lovely:

  • Crocheted Supercashmere Fine Spiral Hexagon Shawl (KC309 C),
  • Lace Supercashmere Fine Shawl with Pleats (KK475),
  • Supercashmere Fine Frost Flowers Top (KK322) and
  • Supercashmere Fine Sunsports Shawl (KK296).

We also have exciting news from Addi about the Addi Turbo Lace Circular Needles. They now come in 3 larger sizes -- 7 to 9 U.S. (4.5 to 5.5mm) -- and a new length (40"). Just imagine how many more terrific projects you can knit now with these additions!

In addition from South West, we are carrying the Tofutsies Stitches Collector's Edition, a special offering available only from stores participating in the XRX Stitches 2008 events.
