You know that you can count on us to keep your babies, little girls & preteens up to date & in style too as we feature in the Baby & Kid's Stuff area and in the Children's Tops department. Just some of the terrific choices for your favorite little ones this summer include the:
Starting off with the yarn companies recently added to the Yarnmarket family, we're very excited to offer for your knitting & crocheting pleasure the complete Mission Falls collection from Canada. We're so glad that the mill & designer Mags Kandis decided to bring these terrific yarns back by popular demand, and we know that you Mission Falls aficionados will agree with us. For those of you curious about all the hoopla recently, just take a quick look at the terrific texture & rich, earthy color palette of 1824 Cotton, and you'll see why we're all thrilled. Then add their fantastic fall/winter option 1824 Wool to the mix with its even larger collection of solids & heathers and its interchangeable gauge, and need we say more?
We are also introducing an accent/trim yarn from Anny Blatt this month with major plans for expanding the collection in the fall. Think of Anny Blatt as the younger sibling of Bouton d'Or, and notice how well these yarn collections are coordinated to complement each other (they "get along" much better than some sisters & brothers do!). For example, take a look at Gyps d'Anny and how it is used to accent the lovely recent addition from Bouton d'Or -- New Bamboo. "New Bamboo" has a luster & sheen that can come only from such an exotic natural fiber. Then add to it the metallic brilliance of "Gyps d'Anny," and you have a winning combination in tops, sweaters, accessories & eveningwear year round.
Of course, we know you have your favorite yarn companies among our regular vendors, and we the staff at Yarnmarket strive to keep up with the latest & the best from every company in our collection. One brand we added over a year ago now is Artyarns, and we enjoy the beautiful fibers & magnificent colorways design guru Iris Schreier selects each season as much as you do. Her latest 3 innovations have an interesting evolution to overview briefly. Building on her splendid silk collection of Regal Silk, Silk Ribbon & Silk Fur, she's now added Silk Mohair as another of her silk "building blocks."
Then Iris has moved on to combine some of these terrific creations, not just in her pattern designs as she has done from the beginning, but also in new yarns from Artyarns. Silk Rhapsody is her first venture into combining the beauties, and here she has combined the sheen & luster of "Regal Silk" with the soft halo effect of the "Silk Mohair." One more we've added from Artyarns is the exquisite Silk Rhapsody Glitter where Iris has made the fiber mix even more special by enhancing her luscious silk creations with a thin, glittering thread of gold or silver. Also our color palette of "Silk Rhapsody Glitter" was handpicked for us by Iris herself, and we appreciate our continuing partnership with such a gifted designer.
Besides these terrific new yarns from Artyarns, we now have in stock new offerings from Lana Grossa, Crystal Palace, Lang and Windy Valley Muskox. Two new spring/summer yarns by Lana Grossa are both fun & different: Colorato with its asymmetrical self-striping & metallic accent, and Pelino, the ultimate in fun, funky summer yarns that's soft & comfortable. Then the yarn developers at Lang have mixed the smooth, cool feel of cotton with high-luster silk to get the sensational Lyra. Also take a look at the close cousin of the ever-popular Cotton Chenille from Crystal Palace -- Cotton Chenille Print. Remember too that any pattern written for solid-colored "Cotton Chenille" works just as beautifully in variegated "Cotton Chenille Print." And last but never least is the most recent development from Windy Valley Muskox. Check out the very rare & exotic Guanaco combed and harvested from the sparse undercoat of the llama-like mammal. So rare that it's offered only in a blend & in its natural color, "Guanaco" is a terrific laceweight yarn for all of those open-weave shawls & scarves you like to make.
For you bikini lovers, you'll love the creative genius of the designers at Berroco as in the Suede Bikini. Then if you're looking for something a little less revealing, use as your cover-up the supersoft, lightweight Opaco Hooded Jacket. For those little ones who like the water, check out the precious Baby Bathing Beauty designed exclusively for stretchy Fixation from Cascade. Then a furry, fun, lightweight cover up for the younger set is the Funky Magic Hooded Jacket with its automatic striping so popular in today's fashions. Or take a look at the Fresco Hooded Poncho as an ideal cover-up or to sub for a lightweight jacket while on vacation.
And don't forget the correct footwear for the beach or poolside. Our always popular Fuzzy Flip Flops are fun, funky & appropriate for all ages. Since this project starts with a free pattern from Yarnmarket, you can make several pairs for less than $16.50 & even use leftover yarn since it takes so little yarn.
We have also added another area to our Kits department: the Quilting Kits specialty area. We know how crafty knitters & crocheters can be, and to be honest, we just couldn't resist these beautiful kits ourselves when we first saw them! You have two choices as an experienced quilter starting with the Berkshire Blues Quilt Kit. In a traditional New England style & colorway, you create a large 70" by 82" quilt or wall hanging for your home by following the enclosed instructions. Or for those of you who like a more abstract style, check out the spectacular Blended Beauty Quilt Kit designed around the Indonesian Tonga Batik fabric designed by fiber artists Debra Lunn & Michael Mrowka.
Yarndex is your ultimate Yarn Reference Library with all information provided directly by the manufacturers. For each yarn, you'll find the brand, distributor, country of origin, yardage, ball weight, yarn weight, fiber content, texture, gauge, needle size, availability, manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), and specific care instructions. You'll also find the most recently available color information including a shade card and details about any discontinued colors when provided by the manufacturer. The shade card can be particularly helpful when you're selecting or combining colors for a project.
With this detailed information, you can decide if the specific yarn is right for your project. Or if you want to look for a substitution, you can do a quick or an advanced search for other yarn possibilities. Sometimes you'll start with the Quick Yarn Search, especially when you're looking for a specific yarn by name, texture or yarn weight. Or you may want to use the Advanced Yarn Search for more detailed searches. But however you use it, we bet that Yarndex.com will quickly become one of your favorite reference sites.
