This month we have fabulous new yarn additions from Aslan Trends, Anny Blatt and Fiesta as well as new colors in many of your favorite yarns from some of our best-selling manufacturers. And to start us off with a bang, we are announcing a HUGE sale on all Prism yarns, those hand-dyed beauties in luxurious fibers and blends you so love. Through Monday, February 6, 2012, enjoy 20% off these gorgeous fiber gems and remember that there are no minimums or maximums on this sale. Also all backorders placed during the sale will be honored at the lower price and will be shipped to you as soon as we receive the new stock (as always, we will fill any backorders before offering the rest of the stock to our other customers).

Now as for the new yarns, let's start off with the latest two offerings from Aslan Trends, the South American yarn company known for quality fibers at affordable prices. First, we have beautiful Alpaca Melange yarn crafted in Bolivia from 100% dehaired alpaca. You won't believe how super soft this yarn is when it's dyed in lovely heathered/melange hues. Add that "Alpaca Melange" is also hypoallergenic and lighter and warmer than wool, and you have a gorgeous worsted-weight choice for your knitted & crocheted shawls, cardigans, ponchos, pullovers, scarves and other accessories.

Then when you're looking for an upscale fiber blend at an affordable price, look no further than King Baby Llama & Mulberry Silk, oh-so aptly named for the two sumptuously soft fibers that are combined in this gorgeous yarn. First, the highest quality baby llama is completely dehaired and processed for velvety results. Then the very best silk available in the world today -- Italian mulberry silk (also known as "cultivated silk") -- is blended in for a fabulous yarn with a lovely sheen and wonderful strength & durability.

Also since both "Alpaca Melange" and "King Baby Llama & Mulberry Silk" have the same gauge and yardage per hank as popular Royal Alpaca also from Aslan Trends, you can still use your favorite worsted-weight patterns and sub one of the new yarns for the original one. Just take a quick peek at the classic Alpaca Melange Cropped Cardi and the colorful Aslan Trends Entrelac Cowl, and you'll see for yourself just how sensationally these yarns work up. And both of these patterns are yours free with your yarn purchase too!

Next, for those who love the high-quality, cutting-edge fibers from Anny Blatt, we are introducing three stunningly beautiful yarns today. In response to recent customer requests, we have added Angora Prestige as a fabulous addition to our Anny Blatt angora yarn family. Spectacularly crafted in France of 100% angora, "Angora Prestige" is well named since it's made of exceptionally high-quality angora rabbit fur before it is dyed in gorgeous solid shades. Spun as a fantastic sport/DK-weight fiber gem, "Angora Prestige" is ideal for all your knitted and crocheted tops, cardis, scarves, shawls, hats, gloves, sweaters & more.

We have also added two trendy novelty yarns from Anny Blatt so that you can stay right in step with the latest fashion trends. Carry-a-long Tresor gives you glistening sequins plus subtle metallic shimmer in a superb companion yarn, while Jalouse is a fantastic interpretation of the faux fur look so popular for trims and accents this season. And, of course, the haute-couture designers from Anny Blatt have outdone themselves with new pattern support: From the very French lines of the Angora Bishop Pullover to the fun & flirty Jalouse Linden Skirt and from the feminine detailing of the Aston Jacket to the avant garde lines of the Salma Shrug, these yarns have simply stunning pattern support.

Fiesta Cruise Collection
Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala
in the Fiesta Cruise Collection

We're also excited once again to have a new limited-edition colorway in stock from the spectacular Fiesta Cruise Collection in two fabulous Fiesta yarns. "Starburst La Boheme" and "Cottonista" have quickly become two of your favorite yarns in the Cruise Collection, and now these yarns are hand dyed in the limited-edition January colorway. The new port of call is Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, a charming port city on the Pacific coast of Guatemala. Puerto Quetzal is home to the beautiful, iridescent Quetzal bird, which was once sacred to the Mayan civilization that once ruled over this land. This month's limited-edition colorway features red for this beautiful bird, turquoise and green for the lovely waterways, a golden orange for the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. And as always, Fiesta has provided fabulous pattern support, and we highly recommend the following projects for your next Cruise project:

  • The classic La Boheme Biased Stole that will look great knitted up in the new colorway;
  • The feminine Old German Lace Vest for year-round style & pizzazz;
  • The truly stunning Anthropology Jacket with its lovely detailing on both the front and the back; and
  • Our personal favorite, the casual Cottonista Cardigan we'll enjoy wearing for many seasons and many years to come.
  • In addition to these brand-new yarns, we've added beautiful new colors in the following fiber gems from Tahki and Crystal Palace, and they are included in the 20% Off Sale through next Monday, January 23rd:

  • Two variegated combos in Montana Print (020 & 021);
  • Six new solids in popular Ripple (10 through 15);
  • Three new hues in luxurious Rio yarn (005, 016 & 018) with its lush blend of alpaca, merino & silk;
  • #897 in perennial fave Donegal Tweed yarn;
  • And in multi-seasonal Cotton Chenille yarn from Crystal Palace, you can enjoy five new shades (3501 through 3505).

    As we've been discussing since the beginning of September, we've researched the style advice of some of our favorite knitwear designers and also gotten tips from haute-couture fashionistas to refurbish our wardrobes for the cooler weather of the season. But with all the rushing around to get the best gifts made for our favorite relatives and friends, how many of us have actually made something to enjoy ourselves lately? And don't you agree with us that we should be making some special garments and accessories to jazz up our own wardrobes? So for this month, please consider our recommended staff picks to add that extra flair to your wardrobe you so crave and to indulge yourself with marvelous projects that won't break the bank:

    Kureyon Eyelet Bobble Scarf
    Kureyon Eyelet Bobble Scarf

  • First off, we love the classic knitwear designs from Debbie Bliss and how she creates projects for all skill levels. For example, the Paloma Easy Knit Raglan Sweater is perfect for an advanced beginner interested in creating his or her first long-sleeved sweater. On the other hand and in the same pattern collection, Debbie gives us the Paloma Cable & Bobble Sweater geared to advanced intermediate knitters. This pullover is just the challenge anyone who's experienced with cables would enjoy on those long winter evenings. Or for a quick accessory project, check out the wonderful Easy Paloma Scarf also crafted from the same fiber blend of supersoft baby alpaca and merino wool.
  • Then another great design source to whom we often turn for inspiration is Laura Bryant, founder of Prism yarns and her high-quality, hand-dyed fibers that are now on sale. Her gorgeous Saki Beaded Circle Shawl is a stunningly beautiful wrap with a circle of lace worked from just one hank of yarn! Three easy lace motifs are followed by a simple crocheted picot edge, and the piece is embellished with beads during the knitting with a wonderful method that does not require stringing the beads onto your working yarn. All of this beauty is built around the marvelous features of Saki yarn with its fabulous color options and superbly spun from 80% merino & 20% nylon.
  • And when you're looking for a design with a definite runway twist, you can count on Wenlan Chia (better known as "Twinkle" in the fashion world) for both panache and comfort. Take a look at the comfy, versatile Baby Chunky Cloud Dancer Top. Whether you call it a top, a pullover sweater or a sweater vest, this garment is ideal for multi-seasonal dressing and it's a fast knit as well. Designed exclusively for quick-to-create Baby Chunky yarn, this great project is one we highly recommend for all shapes and figure types too.
  • And, of course, scarves are still some of the hottest projects out there for you to indulge in, and what better yarn to select but colorful, auto-striping,ever popular Noro, the mastermind of color combinations. This month's featured project is the ultimate in brilliantly hued scarves, so enjoy the Kureyon Eyelet Bobble Scarf as featured in the terrific pattern book Knit Noro Accessories.

First up, since Yarnmarket first opened its doors here in Central Ohio, we have always prided ourselves on carrying some of the best Knitting Needles & Crochet Hooks in the industry. Then in addition to the Dreamz Interchangeable Starter Set, the needle gurus at Knitter's Pride have a special set for all who love working with chunky yarns. The Dreamz Interchangeable Chunky Set contains 3 sets of 4.5" tips in U.S. sizes 13, 15 & 17, each a different color to keep them organized easily & quickly. Each set also contains 2 cables/cords (24" & 32"), 4 end caps and 2 cable keys plus a clear vinyl case to store all these goodies.

    Next take a look at the fantastic Winter Scarf Kit from Maggi Knits that is exclusive to Yarnmarket. Our favorite Irish designer, Maggie Jackson, has created this scarf kit for us using her ultra-soft Merino Chunky as the base. The piece is accented with Maggi's Rag and Italian Angora yarns in that classic Maggi Knits style. The scarf is two layers, so it is superbly warm and we guarantee compliments wherever you go!

    Embraceable Wraps, the terrific organization that raises funds for breast cancer charities, has teamed up with jeweler Amanda Jaron to bring you a lovely set of shawl pins. Each pin is shaped like a flower with a stem and great leaf embellishment for the pin tip. Choose your favorite center stone color first -- pink, purple or teal -- and then select whether goldtone or silvertone will work best with your favorite outfits. Then for added bling, clear crystals surround the center stone and adorn the leaf pin tip. Wonderful gift idea or add one to your accessory collection!

    Then what a great way to treat dry, irritated, sore skin and be sure you don't snag those delicate, expensive yarns you so love. Mary Ellen's Made By Hand Therapy Gel is a quick-drying gel that helps you get back to work in no time. This hand lotion also contains white willow bark used for thousands of years in Europe and China to relieve inflammation and pain. Add that Made By hand Therapy Gel leaves no greasy residue, and you have a dry-skin, pain aid for every crafty person you know.

    And we do appreciate your feedback to let us know how much you enjoy our spotlight on sensational projects from past seasons. So as you've requested, we're again featuring in this issue popular projects we recommend for a second look. They've remained popular since being introduced, but with over 4600 Project Ideas now available in our store, we understand the challenge of finding the best options for yourself and for your friends & relatives. Please check out the ones we're featuring in this issue as ways to indulge yourself and jazz up your cool-weather wardrobe this season:

  • For a fabulous option of a garment that's super quick to create, especially for a long garment, check out the wonderful styling of the Sundae Bowery Coat from Berroco. Featuring super chunky Sundae yarn, you can knit up this wonderful piece on large needles. The design is a very straightforward knit -- just stockinette edged with ribbing. The high collar will keep you warm and the patch pockets add some interest as do the 3/4-length sleeves. Or if you prefer working with an easy-care, heavy worsted yarn, consider the striking Baltic Coat from Bergere de France. The double-breasted styling and the trendy gold buttons definitely give this coat (or dress) a real WOW factor!
  • Another oldie-but-goodie project that's ideal for indulging yourself is the Cashmerino Aran Hooded Jacket. Styled in the photograph from a back issue of Vogue Knitting, this sophisticated piece showcasing Cashmerino Aran by Debbie Bliss delivers so much more than the project title implies. This spectacular cardigan jacket is an update of a classic cutaway-style silhouette with the addition of a hood. Also seed stitch blossoms at the shoulders into a shawl-shaped lace pattern and takes root in the ribbed button band and cuffs, from which the sleeves are then picked up and knit.
  • And speaking of cardigans, an oldie-but-goodie Noro project will remain on our favorites list for all time. The Silk Garden Belted Cardigan is breathtakingly beautiful and is an excellent way to take advantage of self-striping Silk Garden yarn. Featured in another of our favorite pattern collections -- Knit Noro, this relaxed cardi has figure-flattering diagonal stripes and a waist-cinching belt to create a silhouette that many can wear. It works equally well teamed up with jeans for a chic weekend look as it does with slacks or a dressy skirt for the office.
  • And last but certainly not least, indulging ourselves with popular accessories has been a tradition for many years too. One of our favorite shawl projects is the Kid Slique Longtailed Wrap from Prism's Laura Bryant and with luxurious Kid Slique yarn in the spotlight. Crafted of just four hanks of stunningly soft and beautiful "Kid Slique," this wrap will keep you both warm and reeling in the compliments when you knit it up in such a wonderful blend of mohair and rayon for both fluffiness and a glistening sheen.
